Panorma in Google Earth

I had been thinking about it for months but I was only able to work on it for a couple of evening and WE, after the children were in bed.... As a result, DigitalUrban announced their panorama viewing concept in GoogleEarth before I was able to publish something "convincing". When you have a good idea, never postpone it :-)

So here is a preview of my own work just to maintain some sort of excitement. The general idea is to develop a small MacOSX application on which you drag and drop a equirectangular image of a panorama, then set the position of the panorama and direction of the North, using Google maps and eventually exporting a KMZ file.

Here is a link to a sample of KML file then view of one produced sphere : and a very early preview of the interface to place and orient the sphere.

You may already click on the longitude/latitude map to get the positions of the various panoramas, but I additionally created a map of all the panoramas shoot in Canberra on Wayfaring.com

PanbScreen in version 1.1

The screen server PanbScreen has been updated to version 1.1. The user may now set a preference that make the screen saver start with a random image from the RSS feed, and no more the first one from the feed as it used to.

Launch of PanbScreen screen saver

PanbScreen is a very simple screen saver developed just to play with Quartz Composer. As a result, it will need MacOSX Tiger (10.4) to run. What it does is to display panoramic images proposed on the Panberra web site.

The moral of the story : don’t shoot stiched panoramas under a shading veil, especially with important wind around
